An Interview with Michaela & Veit Michel...

Hi Marco, nice to meet you. We would like to introduce you to the people of Sayalonga.
Yes, I´m Marco, 24 years old and live in Algarrobo. Since the beginning of August I’ve been working as a policeman in Sayalonga.

What did you do before you started this work here.
I worked as a security guard for different companies such as Larios, Ingenio and Parque Maria Zambrano in Velez Málaga.

What was your professional training?
I initially trained as a security guard but for this work I needed more special training including having to obtain a drivers licence for police cars. Now I am qualified to work as the policeman of Sayalonga.

Who is your employer?
I work for the Ayuntamiento in Sayalonga.

What are your duties in Sayalonga?
Oh, there are many; like traffic policing in general, security of the streets, lookout points, parks and car parks.

With what kind of problems can people ask for your help?
With all problems that affect the needs of daily life or any anxieties they may have. I want the inhabitants of Sayalonga to feel confident about turning to me for help with all kinds of problems.

How can I get in touch with you?
It is best to call the Ayuntamiento in the morning and ask for Marco or José Luis. The phone numbers are 952 – 535125 or 952 – 535021. We will try to solve all problems.

What happens in a difficult situation or an emergency?
I´m constantly in contact with the Guadia Civil in Algarrobo. They can be here within a few minutes.

You also come to the campo?
Yes, sure, I work in the whole municipality of Sayalonga; in the village walking and in the campo with the police car.

There is a project to give names to the campo roads. What do you think about this?
I think that it is very interesting; it would be much easier to find a house or a place out there.

Can you issue tickets?
Absolutely yes, when I have to. From last year the fines are much heavier. For example
90€ for smaller offences – like double parking or parking on a yellow line; parking too close to a traffic lights or driving without car papers.
Fines are up to 300€ for greater offences – like using a mobile phone in the car, driving without a seat belt secured or riding a motorbike without a helmet. 

Is it true that I can get a discount on my ticket?
Yes, when you pay your ticket within 10 days of issue, then you get a 30 % discount on the amount.
You have to go to the bank and pay the reduced amount and then bring the receipt to the Ayuntamiento,
If you do not pay within this time, all papers will be sent to Málaga and you have to pay the full amount.
